Arthur William Symons (28 February 1865 – 22 January 1945), was a British poet, critic and magazine editor.

Born at Milford Haven, Wales, the son of a Wesleyan minister, he was educated privately and spent much of his time in France and Italy

In 1884-1886 he edited four of Quaritch's Shakespeare Quarto Facsimiles, and in 1888-1889 seven plays of the "Henry Irving" Shakespeare.

He became a member of the staff of the Athenaeum in 1891, and of the Saturday Review in 1894.

In 1909 Symons suffered a psychotic breakdown, and published very little new work for a period of more than twenty years.

This poem, like yesterday's, reflects in Autumn time on lost love.

LOVE IN AUTUMN

It is already Autumn, and not in my heart only,
The leaves are on the ground,
Green leaves untimely browned,
The leaves bereft of Summer,
My heart of Love left lonely.

Swift, in the masque of seasons,
The moment of each mummer,
And even so fugitive
Love's hour, Love's hour to live:
Yet, leaves, ye have had your rapture,
And thou, poor heart, thy Summer!
